I CAN DECIDE NOW TO CHANGE MY LIFE!

My story:

Shy?

I too was once shy. It was my background, since I came from a remote barrio.

Life Notes from

2 Tim 1:7-8
7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
8 So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
(NIV)

Deut 31:6
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." (NIV)

But now, I am a public speaker, a management lecturer and a pastor. I still don't like crowds. Given a choice, I would rather work on the computer or tinker with machines. They are more predictable than people, and less stressful!

I remember my first instance at public speaking. It was merely to page a fellow student at a civic gathering. I stammered over the mike: "Please come to the stage. You are needly badded!" What was that? Badly needed, dummy!

But how did I get over that?

God put a message in my heart that I so longed to share out loud. As the apostle Paul wrote in 1 Cor 9:16: "Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!" (NIV)

The secret is to want something badly enough. That will help you overcome shyness: be introducing yourself to a girl, or making a speech in class, or going to a party. Some tips:

  1. Be conscious that God is with you ALL the time! His presence will drive away fear.
  2. It is OKAY to make mistakes… as long as you learn from them.
  3. Don't know what to talk about? Let the other person do the talking. Be an interested listener.
  4. Be confident that you are somebody. Don't devalue yourself. God thought you were important enough to die on the cross for. So, lift your head up.
